Topics covered include statistical and deterministic techniques for identifying network and host-based intrusions an distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks, techniques for identifying the source of intrusions and attacks, modeling network virus/worm, measurement studies of worm/virus/intrusion and DDOS activities. Students registered for course will be expected to do the readings, present a paper, and participate in discussions
Students interested in doing a project may be able to take an independent study course with this seminar as a core component.
The course prerequisites include a course on networking, and gradaute student status. Knowledge of probability theory and algorithms will be helpful.
